NEWS AND NOTES

We're

excited  your back!

August 28, 2006

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our 2006-2007 school year. We are excited that you have chosen us as a partner in your child’s early care and education.  We know your child will have many positive experiences in the classroom. The adjustment period, whether your child is returning to us and is in a new classroom or is new to Tiny Tot Preschool, will be minimal compared to the skills and friendships that your child will make here.

Early childhood education is very important in the development of many skills, such as social and self-help skills, emotional and cognitive skills, fine and gross motor skills to name just a few.  The skills learned in the early years will help prepare your child for a lifetime of learning.  We are honored that you have entrusted us to nurture and educate your child in this crucial time in his/her life.

One of our goals is to keep communication open between school and home. We encourage you to call the school and talk with those who may be of help. The office is available to you any time, and you may speak directly with your child’s teacher between the hours of 12:30 and 2:30 daily. We will also provide information about events and activities taking place at Tiny Tot on the parent information board in your child’s classroom and in the class and school newsletter.  Our newsletters and parent handbook are on our website, tinytotskokie.com. The parent handbook is an excellent tool for answering any questions you may have about our philosophy, policies and curriculum.

It is our goal to provide the best experience possible for your child and family as we continue to strive for excellence in early care and education.

We are looking forward to the best year ever!

Sincerely,

Bonnie Shanahan
Director

"JUST A FEW REMINDERS"

TINY TOT WILL BE CLOSED ON
Monday, September 4th
in honor of Labor Day

What your child wears to
school can make a significant
difference in his/her day.
Please have your children
wear gym shoes.
Choose clothes that are soft
and flexible. This allows your
child to run, climb, peddle
without restriction.
We don’t have to dress up for school.
We encourage you to send your
child in clothing that can and will
get dirty. A young child’s work
and play is active and messy.
Leave jewelry at home.
Necklaces, bracelets and rings
can get caught on play equipment
and cause injury to your child.
Also jewelry can get lost or broken
and we all feel bad.

Breakfast is between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m.

No over the counter medication
will be given without a note or fax
from the doctor.
We will administer only prescription
medication in the original container
with your written consent.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

One of the best gifts to your child is
a lifelong love of reading, and that begins
by reading out loud every day.
It’s never too early to start, and it’s
the single most important thing
you can do to help your child
build his literacy skills.
Research shows that children
who have been read to
since their earliest years do better
in reading than their peers
who haven’t had the same advantage
-and the edge persists
all the way to high school.

Most libraries today have
wonderful children’s section
and even story hours.
It’s a great field trip.

Happy reading!

The Joy of Reading!

Please wash your child’s hands
when you bring your child to school.
It is  the single most important
thing we can do to prevent
the spread of germs.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
during Underwater Adventure Week the children used
different colored circles to decorate beautiful rainbow fish.
To make our jellyfish, the children held their papers
over bowls of different colored soapy water
as their teachers blew bubbles through a straw.
The children first used crayons to draw pictures
of their favorite underwater sea creatures.
Then, they used a tempera paint wash to add the blue water.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
During Sports Week we talked about different sports that we play during the summer.
We practiced catching, batting throwing, and kicking balls.
The children enjoyed the ball splat art project, in which they dipped balls
in paint and then  threw them onto paper.
During camping week, we read books about camping.
We sat up a camping scene in our classroom.
We decorated our tents by gluing different shapes of tissue paper on our tents.
We also painted flames and logs to make campfires.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
during the last week of July we learned about camping.
We set up a tent in our room for everyone to try.
We made backpacks and our favorite project was decorating sleeping bags.
During Circus Week we drew clown costumes on life-sized outlines of ourselves.
Each one of us got to decorate our own clown costume and shoes.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
during Western Week talked about the hot desert sun
and we drew our own desert pictures.
During Circus Week we talked about the primary colors (yellow, red and blue).
We mixed colors to make more colors and free painted with our homemade colors.
The children also drew their favorite memory at Summer Camp.
The teacher wrote a sentence or two describing their picture
so everyone would know their favorite.
During Summer Fun Week we talked about finding treasure in the sand.
We made our own buried treasure in a bottle.
