NEWS AND NOTES

Leaves of red, overhead,
Tell us Autumn is coming,

Leaves of brown, tumbling down,
Tell us Autumn is here.

   FIRE PREVENTION WEEK!
October 7-13

During Fire Prevention Week we will all practice our fire safety rules.
We will have a fire drill and soon have a visit from our friendly neighborhood fireman
to show us his equipment and talk about what to do in case of a fire at your house.
He will come in as a dad, dress up as a fireman and then leave as a dad.
We hope that the children will see that under all of that equipment there is
a dad or mom who is there to help them.  We want them to run toward the fireman,
not away from him in fear, in case of emergency.

CHECK YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS!!!

Monday, October 15th
will be Picture Day.

The photographer will begin
taking pictures at 7:00 a.m.
The pictures will arrive
before Christmas.
They make great holiday gifts.

DON'T FORGET TO "FALL BACK" ON NOVEMBER 4th

Our Halloween Party will be on Wednesday, October 31st.  The children should come dressed in their costumes over their clothes.  Remember they will be in them for the morning, so please make them comfortable.  We discourage the wearing of Power Rangers and violent action heroes. We will have our parties in the morning and remove costumes before lunch. If you wish, you may bring an individually wrapped treat for your child to hand out on that day.  Ask your child's teacher how many children are in the class. The children will each have a goodie bag to take home.

Parent Tips for Halloween

·  Make your child eats dinner before setting out.

·  Ideally, young children of any age should be

accompanied by an adult.

·  If you buy a costume, look for one made of flame-

retardant material.

·  Although tampering is rare, tell children to bring the

candy home to be inspected before consuming
    anything.

·  Look at the wrapping carefully and toss out anything
    that looks suspect.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
started off the new school year talking about how we are "all the same, all different and all special."
Then we talked about who is in our family.
The children made family trees and some of our families brought in a family picture,
that we displayed in the room. After we talked about friendship, the children made a class collection.
They worked together and made a wonderful collage.
Also, the children painted on the easel with our friends.
Later we talked about our school and made our own school buses.
Finally, we discussed our neighborhood and community helpers.
We talked about construction workers, bakers, mail carriers, firefighters, and doctors!

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
began their year talking about room rules.
During All About Me Week the children talked about themselves.
They made their birthday cakes and brought in a family picture to put on their family tree.
During Family Week they talked about their families and made a family collage.
During Friendship Week they talked about their friends in class.  We also read some books about friendship.
We are also using our senses to learn.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
made family trees.  The children shared with us who lived with them
and they they glued the apples on their trees to show you.
We made Shape Collages to show how everyone and everything is different but special in it's own way.
We painted our hands in remembrance of all those who were lost and the heroes who helped them.
We made Friendship Paintings.  The children chose a friend to paint with.
We can all find Illinois and Chicago on the map and globe.
We are all very excited about our fieldtrip on September 27th to Didier Farms.  More about that next month.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
every month do a family art project, where, as a family they decorate a cutout.
This month we decorated apples.
While talking about all about me, we traced and decorated our names.
We also decorated a puzzle piece people.
We worted our names into boys and girls.
While talking about apples, we finger painted them.

We are learning about our world.
