NEWS AND NOTES

Leaves of red, overhead,
Tell us Autumn is coming,

Leaves of brown, tumbling down,
Tell us Autumn is here.

   FIRE PREVENTION WEEK!
October 8-14

During Fire Prevention Week we will all practice our fire safety rules.
We will have a fire drill and soon have a visit from our friendly neighborhood fireman
to show us his equipment and talk about what to do in case of a fire at your house.
He will come in as a dad, dress up as a fireman and then leave as a dad.
We hope that the children will see that under all of that equipment there is
a dad or mom who is there to help them.  We want them to run toward the fireman,
not away from him in fear, in case of emergency.

CHECK YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS!!!

Thursday, November 6th
will be Picture Day.

The photographer will begin
taking pictures at 7:00 a.m.
The pictures will arrive
before Christmas.
They make great holiday gifts.

DON'T FORGET TO "FALL BACK" ON OCTOBER 29th

Our Halloween Party will be on Tuesday, October 31st.  The children should come dressed in their costumes over their clothes.  Remember they will be in them for the morning, so please make them comfortable.  We discourage the wearing of Power Rangers and violent action heroes. We will have our parties in the morning and remove costumes before lunch. If you wish, you may bring an individually wrapped treat for your child to hand out on that day.  Ask your child's teacher how many children are in the class. The children will each have a goodie bag to take home.

Parent Tips for Halloween

·  Make your child eat dinner before setting out.

·  Ideally, young children of any age should be
     accompanied by an adult.

·  If you buy a costume, look for one made of flame-
     retardant material.

·  Although tampering is rare, tell children to bring the
candy home to be inspected before consuming
    anything.

·  Look at the wrapping carefully and toss out anything
    that looks suspect.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
during our "My Wonderful World" unit we measured the children's heights
and weights and posted them for their parents to see.  We painted family trees
and added an apple for each special member of our families.
We also decorated our own tee-shirts and hung them on our
classroom clothesline.  We overlapped our handprints with our friends
and hung a sign that read "Best Friends Holding Hands."
During our Pet Week we used dog bones to paint and painted
with bubble wrap to make turtle shells.  We glued different colored
yarn pieces to may furry kittys and ducks. We used glitter,
ripped tissue paper and fish cutouts to make our fish tanks.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
want to welcome all of our new friends to our classroom.
During this month we talked about ourselves and families and friends.
We talked about classroom rules and how to follow them.
During "All About Me" Week we talked about ourselves.
We met new friends.  We made a chart of children's weights and weights.
The children enjoyed the birthday cake art project on which they painted
the birthday cakes cut out by using watercolors.  They then counted their
candles according to their ages and glued them on their cakes.
The children also have fun decorating faces on construction paper.
During Friendship Week, we talked about friends.
The children enjoyed making a friendship quilt.
They also made friendship bouquet in which they printing their
hands as flowers on a decorated vase.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
are off to a busy start this year.
We are working on recognizing and writing our letters.
One of the highlights of the week of September 11th
was one of our parents reading a book to the class in Spanish.
During the week of September 18th we talked about different cultures.
Anna's mother showed us many items from Pakistan and explained some of their traditions.
The week of September 25th we were talking about Fall (Autumn)
and all of changes that take place. We are watching for all of the colors to change.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
this year will do a family project each month.
For September, our families decorated apples.
We also did a name art project where we glued objects to our names.
We also learned all about worms and were able to interact and observe
live earth worms.
