NEWS AND NOTES

Happy Fall!
It’s hard to believe we have completed
six weeks of school.
I am always amazed by what takes
place on Howard Street
between the time we close in August
and the first of October.

Thank You ! Thank You!!!! The Fund Raiser was a success!!!!
Thanks to your hard work and generosity our new fence will be
installed on Monday, October 13th.
I am so excited and hope you will be too.
We will have 6 feet of wooden fence from the sandbox to the alley
and across the back, blocking the alley view.
From the alley to the building we will have a 4 foot picket fence and gate.
It’s going to be wonderful!!!

   FIRE PREVENTION WEEK!
October 5-11

During Fire Prevention Week we will all practice our fire safety rules.  We will have a fire drill and soon have a visit from our friendly neighborhood fireman to show us his equipment and talk about what to do in case of a fire at your house. He will come in as a dad, dress up as a fireman and then leave as a dad.  We hope that the children will see that under all of that equipment there is a dad or mom who is there to help them.  We want them to run toward the fireman, not away from him in fear, in case of emergency.
CHECK YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS!!!

4's AND 5's  ARE
GOING ON A FIELDTRIP

The 4's and 5's are going to
Goeberts Pumpkin Farm on

October 16th

The bus will leave about 8:30 a.m. and return about noon. You must bring a disposable lunch and wear your Tiny Tot t-shirt.
PLEASE DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!

DON'T FORGET TO "FALL BACK" ON OCTOBER 25TH

Our Halloween Party will be on Friday, October 31st.  The children should come dressed in their costumes over their clothes.  Remember they will be in them for the morning, so please make them comfortable.  We discourage the wearing of Power Rangers and violent action heroes. We will have our parties in the morning and remove costumes before lunch. If you wish, you may bring an individually wrapped treat for your child to hand out on that day.  Ask your child's teacher how many children are in the class. The children will each have a goodie bag to take home.

Parent Tips for Halloween

·  Make your child eat dinner before setting out.

·  Children should carry quarters so they can call home.

·  Ideally, young children of any age should be
     accompanied by an adult.

·  If your children go on their own, be sure they wear a
watch, preferably one that can be read in the dark.

·  If you buy a costume, look for one made of flame-
     retardant material.

·  Older children should know where to reach you and
     when to be home.

·  You should know where they're going.

·  Although tampering is rare, tell children to bring the
candy home to be inspected before consuming
    anything.

·  Look at the wrapping carefully and toss out anything
    that looks suspect.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

PARENTING TIP:

Teach the "Backtracking" Technique
Kids can learn to backtrack when they've misplaced something.
When children can't find their shoes, their backpack, or their lunch, you have the perfect opportunity
for building a skill that helps the whole family.  Instead of asking "Have you looked under the bed or in the closet?"
ask children to think when and where they last had the missing item.
Give them a chance to use their memory and problem-solving skills.
Above all, avoid jumping in and finding it for them without giving them an opportunity.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
have time to create open ended art works.
We work with paint, glue, crayons and different
materials that we can paint with.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
had fun learning about their bodies.  We turned our handprints into butterflies
and traced our bodies.  We also explored the changes outside during Fall Week.
We collected leaves on our nature walk and used them for our colorful leaf artwork.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
today learned about creative painting.  We used shaving cream, liquid paint,
a scraper and a pair of excited hands.  We sprayed on the shaving cream,
added in the paint with an eye dropper and let the children smoosh the paint
between the paper.  They pulled the paper from the shaving cream, scrapped off
the shaving cream with a painting scraper and there was a masterpiece!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
created these family trees by dipping their arms in brown paint to create the trunks.
The children then dipped their hands in green paint to create the body of the tree.
Next, each child glued on apples with their family member's names.
