NEWS AND NOTES

fall_leavesfall_leavesfall_leavesfall_leavesfall_leavesfall_leaves
Dear Parents,
Now that the cold weather has arrived, we would like to remind you to please dress your children appropriately for the weather. With the exception of extremely cold or damp days, we do have outside time everyday. The length of outdoor play will vary according to weather and temperature. Due to child/staff ratio requirements, children may not be kept indoors due to illness and should remain home if unable to go outside. Please be sure your children have winter coats, hats, mittens, and boots to keep them warm and dry. If your child wears boots, please
bring another pair of shoes for your child to change into. Our heat is in the floors and their feet can get very warm. Some parents bring slippers for inside wear. Please label these items with your child’s name to avoid confusion. It is not unusual for several children to have the
same boots, mittens, hats and slippers. On the subject of clothes, please check your child’s box of extra clothing. They have grown since
August, and shorts and warm weather clothing won’t keep our little ones warm. As a reminder, every child should have at least two complete changes of clothing. Socks too!
Our field trip to the pumpkin patch was great fun. The children returned with many stories and pumpkins. The day was just perfect. Thank you to all our parents who joined in our fun. We couldn’t do it without you.
The children really enjoyed their trip to Centre East Youth Theatre to see “The Mammoth Follies”. As part of our fine art education, we will be attending “Junie B Jones” on Monday, November 10th, and “The Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats” in January.

On Wednesday, November 4th
the Village of Skokie will
vaccinate the children and teachers
at Tiny Tot for H1N1.

Picture Day went very smoothly.
 We should have the pictures
the second week of November.
You will be able to
take the pictures home,
choose what you like
and return the others.

Parent-Teacher Conference Week
starts, November 10th.
The teachers will contact
you for a time.
This is a wonderful time
to sit down with
your child's teacher
and discuss your child's progress.
The teachers have
worked very hard
on the conferences and
are looking forward
to spending a few minutes
with each of you.

just in time for holiday baking. Orders can be picked up

the freezer to the oven to your mouth...yummy!

          HOW TO OBSERVE THANKSGIVING

Count your blessings instead of your crosses.
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes.
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears.
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean.
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth.
Count on God instead of your yourself.

December will be a very busy month for us all. During the month we will be discussing the different and various customs and traditions representative of our ethnic backgrounds at Tiny Tot. If your family would like to share your customs or traditions, please speak to your child’s teacher.
We will have our holiday Pot-Luck dinners again this year in December. You will receive specific information in a few weeks.
We will close on Wednesday, December 23rd at 6:00 pm for our winter vacation, and re-open on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Full tuition is due for all children for the week of December 21st. I realize that that week has only two days: add Christmas and New Years Day to make four days. Your children’s teachers are paid for winter vacation, so it is essential that all parents pay for one week.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
during the month of October we talked about fall and the changes we would see;
like the leaves changing colors and falling off the trees. We made a leaf collage with real and fake leaves.
We then learned about farm animals and the noises they made.
After that, we talked about transportation, and how to get from here to there.
We painted and cars, too.  Lastly, in October we had some Halloween fun!
We painted pumpkins, carved them and made handprint ghosts!
On Friday, the 30th we had our Halloween Party and went trick-or-treating to our neighbors.
Next month we will start to talk about that we are thankful for.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
October was a busy time for us.  It's hard to believe it is already November.
During November we will continue to talk about shapes, colors, letters and numbers.
We will also learn about health and being healthy.  We will also talk about being thankful.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
this month was filled with learning all about Autumn, harvesting fruits and vegetables and Halloween!
For our art projects, we made an apple tree with apple prints, a pumpkin vine, and an Indian corn field.
We carved our class pumpkin, made harvest farmer bears and always made our letter of the week;
which included F, G, H, and I this month.  We had a fantastic field trip to Didier Farm, which provided us the
experience to have a hayride, play in the hay maze, feed the animals and pick our pumpkins.
Our Halloween Party is going to be a BLAST, held on the 30th of October for the fours and fives together!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
during the month of October we have had so much fun!
We went on our Pumpkin Patch field trip where we saw some farm animals like
chickens, piglets and lambs; we took a picture in front of a real Native American Teepee
and got to carry a pumpkin back home!  It was fantastic!
We learned all about Fall and what is keeping the leaves green or helps them
turn different colors.  We also learned about Columbus' exploration and all about his boats
and crew as well as how much fun his discovery was itself.
We talked about night-time animals and what is special about them.
We also had enormous fun decorating our room to make it as spooky we can,
because we love Halloween!  We had precious time with our new music teacher,
Ms. Tanya, with whom we discovered the beauty of the music world!
Thank you, Ms. Tanya, we love your lessons!
We continue to learn to read and write and we also practice never giving up!
In November we will expand our knowledge about language and math
as well as learn all about space traveling.  We will have a fieldtrip to the theater
where we will see "Apollo to the Moon."
The second week of the month we will learn all about food groups and nutrition
and how important is is to have healthy eating habits.
The last two weeks of November, we will learn some history talking about
the Pilgrims and Native Americans as well as Thanksgiving and different traditions.
