NEWS AND NOTES

Dear Parents,
Now that the cold weather has arrived, we would like to remind you to please dress your children appropriately for the weather.  With the exception of extremely cold or damp days, we do have outside time everyday.  The length of outdoor play will vary according to weather and temperature.  Due to child/staff ratio requirements, children may not be kept indoors due to illness and should remain home if unable to go outside.  Please be sure your children have winter coats, hats, mittens, and boots to keep them warm and dry.  If your child wears shoe boots, please bring another pair of shoes for him/her to change into.  Our heat is in the floors and their feet can get very warm. Some parents bring slippers for inside wear.  Please LABEL these items with your child's name to avoid confusion. It is not unusual for several children to have the same boots, mittens and hats.
On the subject of clothes, please check your child's box of extra clothing.  They have grown since August, and shorts and warm weather clothing won't keep our little ones warm.  As a reminder, every child should have at least two complete changes of clothing.
Our field trip to the pumpkin patch was great fun. The children returned with many stories, pumpkins, cords and corn. The day was just perfect. Thank you to all our parents who joined in our fun. We couldn’t do it without you

Picture day is November 6.
Bring your best smiles
and the photographer will
create a masterpiece.
Pictures will arrive before Christmas.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
are the week of November 13th.
There are sign up sheets
in every classroom.
This is a wonderful time to sit down
with your child's teacher
and discuss your child's progress.
The teachers have worked
very hard on the conferences
and are looking forward
to spending a few minutes
with each of you.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
during "Harvest Happenings Week' the children participated in many activities
about apples.  They used apple halves to paint, they practiced
their fine motor skills by adding small apple stickers to pre-cut trees,
and they practiced their color recognition and one-to-one correspondence
skills with an apple matching game.  In preparation for Halloween,
pumpkins we used in any or our activities.  We cut small pumpkins in half
and let the children use them to paint with.  We made pumpkin patches
using our orange painter fists.  We also added faces to pumpkins to make
happy Halloween jack-o-lanterns.  During "Leaves Week" the children used fall colors
and the drop and fold painting method to create beautiful leaves.
The children also used different color tissue paper leaves
to make beautiful fall wreathes.  After going on a nature walk,
the children used leaves they found outside, along with
different colored paper leaves to make fall sun catchers.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during the month of October, we talked about the changes
in the weather and how we had to change our clothes.
The children had fun investigating leaves in our science experiments.
We had fun making leaf wreaths. We also decorated our room with a beautiful fall tree.
During "Pumpkin Week" we talked about hoe different pumpkins are different sizes,
shapes and colors.  We made a pumpkin patch by painting pumpkins.
We learned many songs about leaves, pumpkins and Halloween.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
painted our hands and feet to make these spooky spiders and bats.
We did a lot of pumpkin art this month.
We carved our pumpkin and tasted pumpkin seeds.  We glued on shapes to make faces.
We even hung jack-o-lantern lanterns around our room.
Our favorite song this month was sung to the tune of Pop Goes the Weasel:
Sometimes I like to walk in the dark
I like to shout and scream,
I sneak behind somebody I know,
Boo! It's Halloween!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
want to wish everyone a "Happy Halloween"  with their own Halloween mural.
We made spider webs from cooked spaghetti and glue, then we added our spiders.
We finger painted a pumpkin patch
and carved our very own pumpkin into a great jack-o-lantern.
