NEWS AND NOTES

Dear Parents,
Now that the cold weather has arrived, we would like to remind you to please dress your children appropriately for the weather.  With the exception of extremely cold or damp days, we do have outside time everyday.  The length of outdoor play will vary according to weather and temperature.  Due to child/staff ratio requirements, children may not be kept indoors due to illness and should remain home if unable to go outside.  Please be sure your children have winter coats, hats, mittens, and boots to keep them warm and dry.  If your child wears shoe boots, please bring another pair of shoes for him/her to change into.  Our heat is in the floors and their feet can get very warm.  Some parents bring slippers for inside wear.  Please LABEL these items with your child's name to avoid confusion.    It is not unusual for several children to have the same boots, mittens and hats.
On the subject of clothes, please check your child's box of extra clothing.  They have grown since August, and shorts and warm weather clothing won't keep our little ones warm.  As a reminder, every child should have at least two complete changes of clothing.

Picture day was a success.
Our "tots" were all smiles
and the photographer was very good.
Pictures will arrive in a few weeks.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
are the week of November 14th.
There are sign up sheets
in every classroom.
This is a wonderful time to sit down
with your child's teacher
and discuss your child's progress.
The teachers have worked
very hard on the conferences
and are looking forward
to spending a few minutes
with each of you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

It is with a sad but grateful heart and we bid a fond farewell well to Miss Ramziya.
She has been with us for several years.
She has spent most of her time as the Teacher's Aide in the three year old room.
We join Miss Michelle in wishing Miss Ramziya the best life has to offer.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Tiny Tot is very fortunate to have Deputy Fire Chief Barry Liss as one of our parents.
He graciously visits each year around Fire Prevention Week.
He comes in as Meghan's Dad, dresses in his fire gear and becomes the friendly fireman
who is there to help us. He then undresses and once again becomes Meghan's Dad.
We want the children to know that the fireman is our friend.
If he comes to our house, we need to run to him and not away in fear.
This year we practiced "Stop, Drop and Roll."
Someday, this could save our life!

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
during "Shape Week"  made circle collages and heart butterflies,
twinkling stars and masking tape shape art.  We used flash cards
and games to practice our shapes during circle time.
In the spirit of getting ready for Halloween, we decorated our bulletin board
with a pumpkin and some spooky ghosts!  We also made spider
and ghost prints with our hands.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during "Colors and Shapes Week" we created circle paints
using toilet paper rolls, cups and other circle items.
We created colorful diamond shaped kites and vases using sponge painting.
During "Fire Safety Week" Fireman Liss came to visit us and talk about
fire safety.  We created fire paintings using spray bottles.  We also made fire trucks
and spotted dalmatians.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
brushed glue on pumpkins and then sprinkled on orange sand.
We painted and decorated bowls and turned them into hanging spiders.
We sponge painted pumpkins on yellow paper.
We planted parsley in our indoor terrarium. Look! We have one sprout.
We are growing Indian corn.  First we soak the corn kernels.
They should sprout in 5-7 days.
We will observe what happens.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
to celebrate Fall we made our own tree.  We painted the trunk
and branches and fingerpainted the leaves.
For "Fire Safety Week" we talked about rules to keep us safe.
We made Fire Paintings by blowing air through straws to spread the paint.
We also made pretend smoke detectors to show we should not be scared of smoke detectors.
