OUR HISTORY
Once upon a time, 70 years to be exact, Tiny Tot was born.
Tiny Tot Nursery School, as it was first known, opened in 1948 in a community house in Evanston. Jean Rieker, my mom, was our pioneer in what would later become today’s Tiny Tot Preschool Early Care and Learning Center. In our early beginnings we were a morning play school. Always the innovator, Miss Jean, added afternoons and eventually provided transportation in a wonderful wood sided station wagon. Our location moved to Skokie in the early 1950’s, first at Church and Niles Center and then to Howard Street in 1959 where we have remained ever since.
Over the years, we evolved into a full day care to meet the needs of more and more moms returning to the work force. When my own children were two and three, I too, went back to work… and play. Tiny Tot is where I began my career in education and where I eventually returned to work alongside my mom. Our name may have changed from nursery school to, to play school, to preschool to preschool and kindergarten and finally to Tiny Tot Early Care and Learning Center, but some things remain very much the same. Our commitment to our families, our fabulous staff, and our love of learning has been the driving force sustaining our Tiny Tot community.
Through the years we have shared smiles and giggles, wiped away tears, bandaged “owies” and comforted tiny hearts when they were sick.
What is most amazing is the generations of families we have had the pleasure of serving.
There is nothing better than when an old face pops in to say, “Hello. Miss Bonnie”!
Thank you for entrusting your children to our care. Each and every one has been a treasure.
