National Teacher Appreciation Day
May 5th
Around 1944 Wisconsin teacher Ryan Krug began corresponding with political and education leaders about the need for a national day to honor teachers. Woodbridge wrote to Eleanor Roosevelt who in 1953 persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day. NEA along with its Kansas and Indiana state affiliates and the Dodge City (Kan. ) local lobbied Congress to create a national day celebrating teachers. Congress declared March 7, 1980, as National Teacher Day for that year only. NEA and its affiliates continued to observe Teacher Day on the first Tuesday in March until 1985, when the National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week of May. The NEA Representative Assembly then voted to make the Tuesday of that week National Teacher Day.

REAL MOTHERS

Real Mothers don’t eat quiche;
they don’t have time to make it.

Real mothers know that their kitchen utensils
are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers know that dried playdough
 doesn’t come out of carpet.

Real Mothers don’t want to know
what the vacuum just sucked up.

Real Mothers sometimes ask “why me?”
and get their answer when a little voice says,
 “because I love you best.”

Real Mothers know that a child’s growth is
not measured by height or years or grade.
It is marked by the progression of
Mama to Mommy to Mom…

                                             The Images of Mother:

4 YEARS of AGE  My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS of AGE  My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS of AGE My Mother doesn’t really know quite everything.
14 YEARS of AGE Naturally, Mother doesn’t know that, either.
16 YEARS of AGE Mother? She’s hopefully old-fashioned.
18 YEARS of AGE That old woman? She’s way out of date!
25 YEARS of AGE Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS of AGE Before we decide; let’s get Mom’s opinion.
45 YEARS of AGE Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS of AGE Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

                                ENJOY YOUR PRECIOUS MOMENTS!

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Please mark your calendar.
We have set aside Monday evening, May 11th, for conferences.
The teachers spend a great deal of time preparing for conferences
and look forward to spending time with you.
Please understand that we also have 60 conferences and
it is more important that you honor the time allotted
and be on time for your meeting.
The teachers will assign you a time and it
will be my job to keep everybody on schedule.
I will interrupt if necessary.
In order to effectively discuss you child's progress
without distraction, we ask that you do not have
your child present at conference time.

Magic pickup lotion

Cleanup time is a challenging time for many parents. Make it a little “magical” for your child by introducing “magic pickup lotion”. Just rub a little glitter lotion on his or her hands, and your child will pickup a roomful of toys in no time at all. You could have even more fun by rubbing a little lotion on your hands first. Make your hands start to quiver and shake, then zoom into picking up toys. As with any strategy you try with your child, when this novelty wears off, put it away for a while. Re-introduce it at a later time.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
talked about baby animals we may see outside in the Springtime.
We planted using bunny shaped cookie cutters.  We also dyed Easter Eggs!
Later, we talked about turtles and frogs.  We made turtles by painting Styrofoam bowls green
and adding legs, eyes and a mouth.  We have two new frogs in the classroom, Too!
We made frogs jumping into a pond to welcome them.
Lastly. we talked about how plants and flowers grow.
We planted our own flower seeds inside and outside on the playground,
painted using fake flowers and made our own flowers using baking cups.  What Fun!
In May we will be talking about our moms, lions, tigers and bears...oh my, ladybugs and much, much more!

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...

For Gardening Week, we watched our beans grow.
We celebrated Easter by dying eggs.  For our Baby Animals Week,
we made a beautiful mural and made baby animals out of our handprints.
For our Prehistoric Animals Week, we hatched baby Triops,
an animal that lived during the time of the Dinosaurs.
For our Turtles and Frogs Week, we created a frog habitat with pretend frogs.
We started our Ant Hill Project and they are really working hard in their new house.
It has been a fun month learning all about different animals and incorporating
these lessons into our play.  We have also been working on "BookIt" for two months.
We are very excited to see who the winners are going to be.
Thank you for all of the reading!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
talked about many interesting things.
We have been talking about what changes have been happening outside around us.
We have placed sprouts on our Spring tree,  We decorated kites for our Family Project.
While learning about plants we made our own flowers and labeled the parts.
We are now talking about animals that hatch.
We sorted the different animals and drew our own animal that hatches.
