NEWS AND NOTES

SPRING, SPRING SPRING.......IT'S COMING !!!!!!!!!!
Don't forget to "Spring" Forward on March 8th!!!
Don't Forget to also change the batteries in your smoke detectors!

We are hoping that we have seen the last of the cold.
We will be sending slippers and snow gear home the week
of March 16th,  It's time to check your child's extra clothes
box and replace clothing as needed.  The children have grown
and the fall clothes probably won't fit.  We will be outside
on a daily basis and ask you to dress your child appropriately.
Proper shoes are very important for the safety of the children.
Gym shoes are the best.

Our Fours and Fives have been going on some great trips!
On Friday, February 27th, 2009 they went to see "Let's Go Science"
at the Centre East Youth Theatre.
On March 10th, they will be going to see "Princess and the Pea"
at St. Patrick's High School in their Chicago Kids Company Theater.
What wonderful adventures!

Easy Organization Tips

By organizing the items and toys in your child's room or play area, you're helping her becomes more independent and resourceful.
Here are four of our favorite ideas:

Save plastic baby-wipe containers to store art supplies like markers, crayons and brushes.  Your child can help decorate and label each container.
Hang hammock-like, stretchy material in a corner to store stuffed animals or dolls in.  Hang it low so that children can reach the toys.
Use a clear over-the-door shoe organizer to store your child's collections.  label the dividers with fun facts about the contents.
When it's time to get rid of an old dresser, save the drawers.  Attach wheels to the bottoms to create roll-away, under-the-bed storage bins.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
In February, we talked about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays!
We made our own American Flags too!
For the week of Valentine's Day, we had a lot of fun activities with hearts.
We read special stories and ate special snacks like red jello!
The week after that we talked about healthy habits,
like brushing our teeth, washing our hands, covering our coughs and sneezes
and eating healthy foods so we can get big and strong! Lastly we talked about our bodies!
We are going to start off March by celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.
Also we will talk about the wind, St. Patrick's Day, birds and butterflies, spring things and insects.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during February we talked about President's Week, Friendship,
Valentines Day and Dental Health Week.
On Presidents Day we talked about where George Washington
and Abraham Lincoln were born.
In art we made a cherry tree, water colored pictures
of Washington and Lincoln and made Lincoln's log cabin.
We sang some presidential songs.
During Friendship and Valentines Day Week we talked about our friends in class,
and sang some songs about friends and Valentine's Day.
We made a pop-up card and a valentine heart.
For Dental Health Week we made healthy and unhealthy teeth
and talked about dental health.
We painted the letter "D" with a toothbrush and toothpaste.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
in March will make a tribute to Dr. Seuss by reading his books!
We will cook yummy cat's hats, and have lots of fun!
We will also learn about the wind and birds, construct paper kites and observe birds in the park.
We will celebrate St. Patrick's Day by decorating shamrock foam shapes
and pots of gold and we will mix a green pineapple pudding.
We will also learn about bees and bugs and have a science project about ants.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's..
In February we decorated hearts for our family project.
To celebrate Valentine Day the fours and fives had a party where we made lots of Valentine Day projects.
February is also children's Dental health month and to celebrate it one of the things
we did was toothbrush pant a tooth cutout white.
Every week in our classroom we have a new letter that we learn about.
We also are learning site words on our Word Wall.
