Summer's Here!!!!
Summer is fun and exciting at Tiny Tot.
We do spend more time outside.
The playground is a wonderful outside classroom.
We can only apply sunscreen and insect repellent
if you send it to Tiny Tot with your child.
This is due to the fact that some children may have
allergic reactions to chemicals found in these products.
All products must be labeled with your child's name.
Also please check your child's extra clothing.
They have grown and it is summer.
Your child should have a full set of clothing,
(long and short pants, shirt, undergarments, socks
and a sweatshirt or lightweight jacket).
Gym shoes are the only acceptable shoes for outdoor activities.
For the safety of your children
please follow these simple instructions.
We're planning wonderful summertime activities.

Where did Father's Day Come From?
Father's Day began when Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, who was widowed and raised his six small children by himself on a farm in Washington state.  She proposed setting aside a special day to honor fathers in 1909.  The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington.  It slowly caught on in other states and in1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day.  Finally, in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday in June a national celebration honoring fathers.  This special day has become a day not only to honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure-grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles and big brothers.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
In May we talked about Zoo Animals, Ladybugs, and Butterflies.
We watched caterpillars turn into butterflies! After a few days we released them outside.
In June we will start to talk about Oceans & Water Fun, Ocean Life, Father's Day, Boats & Ships and Community Helpers.
We will also be starting our Project Approach on Transportation.
Summer Camp starts June 13th & we will be going outside a lot more and playing in the water!

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
During the month of June we have many fun themes planned for our three year olds.
We will have a sports week, zoo week, dad week and sensory week.
It's hard to believe summer is almost here.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
The month of May was full of fun and learning. We began celebrating moms and made special gifts for our mothers.
We had two field trips this month to Skokie Youth theatre to see “Madeline and the Bad Hat” and “Click, Clack, Moo”.
We had a special science project…we took care of caterpillars that metamorphosed into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies.
We just released them on May 27. We focused on our child-directed project, our Bird Project.
We have been learning about many different kinds of birds and the characteristics associated with each of them.
We finished the month off by making real wood birdhouses for each child. They painted them with beautiful colors.
We had a wonderful time meeting with the parents for our parent-teacher conferences.
We have taken advantage of the beautiful weather between the rainy days to head off to
Kostner Park (Lyon’s Park) next-door, where we even saw a robin’s nest with 3 blue eggs.
Summer Camp begins next month with many fun and exciting fieldtrips and events planned all summer long.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
May was an interesting month for Junior Kindergarten.
We planted our vegetables and flowers in the garden and due to the severe weather almost lost them all.
We used that unfortunate event to talk about the unpredictability of Nature and how to be safe in bad weather conditions.
We celebrated new friendships: we welcomed Iulia to our class, and had to say good-bye to Sarah.
We observed our Painted- Lady Butterflies become chrysalises, crawl out of their cocoons,
and finally fly away! We decorated our birdhouses and talked about birds and their babies.
We watched bald baby- eagles hatch and grow to be beautiful mighty birds, and we loved that experience.
Our parent teacher conferences went very well and we are now getting ready to Summer Camps and Kindergarten.
It was a month full of fun science and wonderful class memories!
