NEWS AND NOTES

WELCOME BACK!

We hope you all had a
wonderful holiday.

Thank you to all the parents for your thoughtful and generous wishes at Christmas.

The winter weather has arrived. We were due. We do not go outside unless the temperature is 20 degree or higher. Those little hands and ears still need gloves and hats. We need snow pants and boots to play in the snow.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

If you should change your phone number
at home or work or cell please notify us.

If you have a cell phone, please give us the number.

Medical News

The flu season is not over.

Hand washing is the single most important thing we can do to stop the spread of germs.  Please remember to wash your child’s hands upon arrival at school.

Change of Policy:

At the recommendation of the Health Department we will no longer administer over the counter medication without a note or fax from the children’s doctor. Prescription medication must be in the original container from the pharmacy. If your child should require medication the doctor can often prescribe the dosage twice a day, so that you are the only person administering the medication. Our new policy takes effect immediately.

Thank you for your understanding.

Miss Geni in the Toddler Room  is leaving us. Friday, January 9, 2004 will be her last day.  We thank Geni for hard work and dedication to our littlest tots and wish her luck.

Research tells us:

Reading aloud to children is the single most important activity for building understanding and skills for reading success.

Growth in vocabulary and oral language use is related to reading.

Children acquire knowledge of letters through reading.

Phonological awareness is related to reading success and begins to develop through traditional rhymes and word games.

Reading to your child at bedtime is a wonderful way to end the day and a great cuddle time.

A Lesson in Respect

You can teach your youngster to show respect for others. How? By being kind yourself.  Your child will notice when you hold the door for someone, are courteous to strangers on the phone, or choose to help a friend in need.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
had fun making their snow people!  They had their own versions,
and it's refreshing to see what they came up with.
What a great addition to our Winter  Wonderland.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
returned from break with a lot of enthusiasm.
During the first week of January we began learning about the alphabet.
We decorated the first letters of our names and made name plates to hang on the wall.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
drew pictures of themselves and their families.  The children had a great time
explaining who they were drawing and what they were doing
in their pictures.  Some said they were standing on a rock,
while another had cheese and crackers in his ears!
Others did nothing at all, except SMILE!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
during the week of January 5th learned about weather.
While talking about temperatures we had fun making some
unique snowmen using  construction paper felt, and a pipe cleaner.
The Kindergarten also created polar bear pictures by
gluing on white scraps such as doilies and white fabric to represent snow.
Next, each child dictated what their bear was doing.
