NUTRITION NUGGETS

   IN THE KITCHEN-SMOOTHIE TIME!

Here’s a sure-fire way to get kids excited about eating healthfully.
Toss fruit, a few ice cubes, yogurt, a hard boiled egg and some juice into a blender.
You can add a teaspoon of wheat bran into it to but fiber into your child’s diet.
With your supervision, your child may be able to it themselves.
Get creative...you will find that it sure beats spending time in the
kitchen baking goodies that are not healthy for you or your children.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
THE BEST PLAYDOUGH EVER!

Combine 1 cup water, 1/4 cup salt,
1 Tbs. oil, 1 Tbs. vanilla extract,
1 Tsp. cream of tarter
and your choice of food coloring
in a pot until it just begins to boil.
Take it off of the stove
and add 1 cup flour. Stir until
mixed well. Use heavy duty
gloves to take it out
and kneed it until fully mixed.
Store in zip lock bag.
Wait until it has
cooled down and ENJOY!

The teachers and I will be attending
Insights 2010 in February .
Insights is a conference sponsored
by the Illinois Childcare Association.
We will be attending workshops
during the day as part of our
in-service training.

HEARTLAND ALLIANCE

We at Tiny Tot want you to know more about our family that we have
adopted and the organization that brought us together with Erica
and her children. The organization is called Heartland Alliance.
They are located at
208 South LaSalle Street,
Suite 1818,
Chicago, Illinois, 60604.
Their phone number is 312-660-1300
and website address is
www.heartlandalliance.org.
We participate with them in a collaboration for one family,
but we are not limited to donations for just that family.
Erica and her children are doing much better,
thanks to all of you. However, Heartland Alliance
takes care of many families.
Anything you would like to donate would be graciously accepted,
because it would go to the family that needs that specific item.
Anytime you want to bring something in, be it clothes,
house wares or toys would be greatly appreciated.
We thank you for each and every item.

FEBRUARY IS DENTAL HEALTH MONTH!

How do you keep your teeth healthy?

1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
2. Limit sugary foods and drink.
3. Eat crunchy foods such as raw carrots, apples and celery.  These foods help scale tartar from teeth.
4. Eat calcium rich foods such as cheese, milk, and dark green vegetables.  Calcium builds strong bones and teeth.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
In January we had fun with snow, penguins, and polar bears!
One of our favorite new songs was "I'm a Little Penguin."
The children enjoyed playing in the snow on the playground,
they were all bundled up & ready to go!
In February we will start talking about things we love in leiu of Valentine's Day.
Our Valentine Party will be On Friday, February 12th!

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
January was a busy month. We had fun learning
about different kinds of Winter sports like ice skating and hockey.
We talked about penguins and polar bears.
We also made a penguin snack.
What a fun week we had learning about the planets, stars and space.
We painted the phases of the moon and rounded off the week by making non-dairy sugar-free cookies.
During February we will be learning about groundhogs, friendships,
love, presidents and Februar is also Dental Health Month.

Our Bear Cubs, the Fours… ...
January of the New Year, 2010 should prove to be filled with outdoor snow play
and many activities indoors about the beauty and fun of Winter.
We will learn about the animals who live in snowy climates all over the world.
We will learn about health and safety in the wintertime and how to have fun even in the wintery cold weather.
We are preparing to give you an evening to remember.
We have been saving some of your child’s special artwork to display in our First Annual Art Show in April.

Our Swift Ponies, the Fives...
We learned about our five senses, what parts of our bodies are responsible for them
and how to keep those parts healthy. We talked about holiday traditions,
especially gingerbread man and why doesn’t he want to get wet…
We learned how holidays are celebrated around the world
and how rewarding and nice is to give our thoughts and love to the people close to us.
We had a big success performing for our parents at the holiday concert that Tiny Tot
and Music Scholars had organized! We were thrilled to show up our talents!
Then Ms. Claus came to visit Tiny Tot and tell lots of stories about the North Pole
and how the things are so hectic during the holiday’s preparations.
Eventually, we got a visit from Santa Claus himself when he asked about our wishes for the holidays
and made sure that we all have been good.
In January we will start a new year full of fun knowledge and good memories.
We will make a smooth transition sharing about how we imagine a perfect winter.
Then we will talk about community and we’ll try to explore as many different careers as we can!
Please, if some of you are willing to come and talk about your jobs we will be pleased
and very excited to welcome you! We will also have a workshop from a bank that
we contacted and try to learn more about money. Furthermore we will talk about what freedom
and equity are and learn everything about the hibernation process and animals that go through it.
