February 2003

NEWS AND NOTES

LOTS OF INFO FOR YOU......

We will have our Valentine's Parties on Friday, February 14th.  Your child's teachers will be sending home specific information for their classroom.  If you want to get started early we ask for a Valentine card for each child in his/her classroom.  We do not put names on the envelope.  You or your child can sign the back.

The teachers and myself will be attending Insights 2003 on February 15th.  Insights is sponsored by the Illinois Child Care Association.  The teachers will be attending workshops during the day as part of their in-service requirement.

OFFICIAL GROUNDHOG NEWS !

Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow at the 117th annual Groundhog Day celebration in Pennsylvania on Sunday, February 2nd.  Looks like we will have six more weeks of winter...no surprise there!!! The good news is it will go fast and the warm weather will return.  You will receive summer information next week.

FEBRUARY IS DENTAL HEALTH MONTH

A spoonful of sugar may help the medicine go down, but it's not good for teeth.  Children's medicine is often loaded with sugar to make it tastier.  Make sure your child gets in the habit of bushing and flossing after every spoonful.

ALWAYS MAKE TIME,
minutes of time,
minutes of love,
Keep showing me that
you love me,
If I learn to love,
It will be a priceless gift.
Whatever I can, or
cannot do,
If I love,
I'll receive so much.
So express it-giving yourself-
Hugging takes only a minute,
But the print of the hug
On my heart
Lasts forever.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

 Benny has a new friend.
Her name is Bunny.

Our Teddy Bears, the two's,
rang in the new year by making festive party hats.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes,
in the season of winter sports made small football pillows.
We also made food for the birds and talked about many winter animals.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten, this month...
celebrated the snow and made a variety of snowmen.

Our Kindergartener's, this month...
learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and talked about the months of the year and were interested in seeing where we lived on a map of the United States.  We also learned about nutrition.  For homework, each child cut pictures of healthy foods and junk foods from magazines and newspapers.  As a class, we made two collages and labeled them.
