TINY TOT TIMES

December 2008

NEWS AND NOTES

December has arrived, with anticipation of the holidays.  We are having fun
decorating the classrooms and sharing in the children's delight.
This is such a hectic time of year for all of us.  It is especially important to take
time to share the magic of the season with the special people in our lives.

On Monday, December 8th the Four and Five year old classes will host a holiday pot luck dinner and on Wednesday, December 10th the Toddler and Three year old classes will host their holiday pot luck dinner.  All of our parents are asked to bring one of their favorite dishes:  Entrée, salad, side dish or desert.  We will have plates, napkins, and refreshments.
We will start our evening at 6:00 p.m.
The evening will give us a chance to relax,
socialize, have dinner, and share a few laughs.  Brothers and sisters are most welcome.

Santa Claus will visit Tiny Tot on
Tuesday, December 16th in the morning.
It is customary for Santa to visit with
the Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten together
and then the Toddlers and Three Year Olds.
It is a very exciting morning.

A note from the Director.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You !!!!!!!!!

Our Cookie Fund Raiser was the Best Ever!!!!

Again, thank you to those families who made it all possible.

To celebrate our tremendous results,
we all had a pizza party for the entire school on
Wednesday, November 27th to give thanks and celebrate.

The refrigerator is paid for and all new cameras
for the classrooms will be purchased this weekend.

The weather is getting colder.
Please dress your child appropriately.
We love to go outside and play, weather permitting.
Mittens, hats and scarves keep their little hands
and heads warm while they are out on the playground.
Please label these items.
It is not unusual that we have four
or five pair of the same boots.
Please bring a pair of slippers for
your child to wear during the day.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
We started November talking about Pilgrims and Native Americans.
Then we talked about healthy foods to eat.  We made a fruit salad!
Last we talked about Thanksgiving and about saying "Please" and "Thank you."
We made turkeys for our bulletin board, hand print turkeys and painted with corn on the cob!
Next month we will start talking about different holidays
we celebrate; Christmas, Hanukah and Kwanzaa!

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during November we were talking about colors, shapes and how thankful we are.
We also had a Healthy Foods Week.
During Colors Week we made a color collage, a blooming bouquet of colors and sang "I Can See a Rainbow."
For our Shapes Week activities we talked about the different shapes and in Math we counted and sorted shapes.
For Art we made a shapes collage and a square design.
To show how thankful we are we told everyone how to cook a turkey and what we were thankful for.
In art we made a Pilgrim girl or boy and in Social Studies
we talked about how people show they are thankful around the world.
On our final week for Language Arts we talked about healthy and unhealthy foods.
We made a collage and made some apple prints.
Boy, were we busy!

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...

Week 1/ Holidays Around the World
We will celebrate different holidays this week with a piñata, menorahs,
Kwanzaa Fruit, and a colorful tree trimming activity! We look forward to
learning about different holidays and what makes them special.

Week 2/ Sights of the Holidays!
Let it Snow! We will practice snowy paintings with salt, decorate stockings,
whip up some mouth-watering peppermint bark, and use our bodies to make artistic Reindeer!
Oh, what a sight!

Week3/ Sounds of the Holidays

Do you hear what I hear? This week we are sure to use our listening ears
as we listen for Santa (perhaps up on the rooftop?) as he comes to visit Tiny Tot!
We look forward to writing letters to Santa, embarking on a festive field trip
to the play “Mrs. Claus,” and making our own wrapping paper!

Week4/ Smells and Tastes of the Holidays
What do our houses smell like around the holidays? Garland? Cookies? Peppermint? Latkes?
We will use fragrant pine boughs to spruce up some picture frames, enjoy some delicious smelling
gingerbread men, and even decorate our own! Happy Holidays from all of us!
Enjoy the break and see you next year!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
In November we talked about the seasons changing and how the leaves are falling off the trees outside and on our tree inside. For our family projects we decorated turkeys. When talking about families we made our own family tree. For artist of the month we replicated 'Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies' by Monet.
