TINY TOT TIMES

December 2006

NEWS AND NOTES

December has arrived, with anticipation of the holidays.  We are having fun decorating the classrooms and sharing in the children's delight.  This is such a hectic time of year for all of us.  It is especially important to take time to share the magic of the season with the special people in our lives.

December will be a very busy month for us all. During the month we will be discussing the different and various customs and traditions representative of our ethnic backgrounds at Tiny Tot. If your family would like to share your customs or traditions, please speak to your child’s teacher.

We will have our holiday Pot-Luck dinners again this year in December. You will receive specific information in a few weeks.

Santa Claus will visit Tiny Tot on
Tuesday, December 19th.
It is customary for Santa to visit with
the Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten
together and then the Toddlers and
Three-year-olds.  It is a very exciting
morning here and really gets us in the spirit.

Thank you for you

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
During Color Week, the children participated in many color-mixing activities.
We discovered purple by mixing red and blue paint together using a textured roller.
We mixed red and yellow paint together using our fingers to make orange.
We also squished Ziploc baggies full of blue and yellow paint until we made green.
We also used the drop and fold method to make beautiful black and white pictures.
The children made rainbow penguins using glue and brightly colored collage materials.
Each child used paint and glitter to decorate their own feather for your bulletin board turkey.
The children also made colorful turkeys  by gluing on beautiful feathers.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during the month of November talked about farm animals.
We learned new songs like "The Farmer in the Dell" and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm."
We also had fun learning about our five senses.  The children had fun
making texture collages by gluing different materials on construction paper.
We are in the process of leaning numbers.  The children enjoyed
their time gluing noodles on the numbers after counting.
For Thanksgiving Week we talked about how we will spend out holiday with our families.
The children painted a turkey and decorated the beautiful feathers to go with it.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
learned about the five senses.  We did a lot of fun activities such as
smelly paint (paint mixed with J-ello), pasta painting and painting with shaving cream.
We also mixed colors to see what happened.  We used our tasting sense
to test different foods for sweet, sour, spicy, bitter and salty.
Ask you child what they liked the best.
We have fun playing with the hay and decorating a scarecrow with it.
We learned the letters Ee and Ff  and we practiced writing out names.
We are starting to write them ourselves.
The fours and fives colored cooperatively together.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
decorated turkeys for our family project.
When we talked about Fall leaves we took a walking fieldtrip
to Emily Oaks Nature Center to look at the different colors and shapes of leaves.
From the leaves we collected we made fall leaves to hang up.
During Native American Week we talked about how important
corn was to the native American culture. To celebrate this,
we made pictures of Indian corn by finger painting
corn kernels on a picture of a corn cob.
