TINY TOT TIMES

December 2005

NEWS AND NOTES

December has arrived, with anticipation of the holidays.  We are having fun decorating the classrooms and sharing in the children's delight.  This is such a hectic time of year for all of us.  It is especially important to take time to share the magic of the season with the special people in our lives.

Since December is a very busy month for all of us,
instead of a holiday show this year
we will be having a Winter Potluck Dinner.
The toddler and three year old class
will host their dinner
on Tuesday, December 13th.
The four and five year old class
will host their dinner on
Thursday, December 15th.
We will be discussing the different
and various customs
and traditions representative
of our ethnic backgrounds at Tiny Tot.
If your family would like to share
your customs or traditions,

please speak to your child's teacher.

Santa Claus will visit Tiny Tot on
Tuesday, December 20th.
It is customary for Santa to visit with
the Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten
together and then the Toddlers and
Three-year-olds.  It is a very exciting
morning here and really gets us in the spirit.

Thank you for you cookie dough
and popcorn orders.
The goodies will be delivered
on Wednesday, December 8th
at 12:oo noon.
If you work in the area and are
able to pick up your orders on
your lunch, please let us know.

  Dear Parents,
Chalet Nursery & Garden Shops will have
Artic reindeer visiting again this year from
  November12-December 18.
You are invited to bring your children to visit
and learn about the reindeer, enjoy the sights
and fragrances of the nursery and sing
"Jingle Bells" in the Education Center. Not
only do the reindeer capture the spirit of the
holiday season, but they are useful domesticated
animals that are not commonly seen. We know
this is a very busy time, but hope you have an
opportunity to enjoy this enriching educational
  experience.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
During "We Are Thankful Week,"  the children used colored feathers
to decorate these beautiful turkeys.
The teachers helped each child paint their fingers and make
handprints to create these turkeys.
During "Numbers Week," we used candles and cupcakes to practice counting.
The children put strawberries in their baskets during this counting activity.
After reading a story about gumballs, the children created their own brightly
colored gumball machines during another counting activity
During "Toy Week" the children used toy cars, trucks, and trains to paint
these pretty tire track  pictures.
This is our winter bulletin board.
The children used paint and glitter to decorate snowflakes.
The teachers are in the process of attaching each child's picture
to their snowflake for all to see.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during the month of November talked about the change in season.
During Fall Week, we went on a nature walk and collected different
colored leaves to create a collage with.  We also made fall leaf wreaths
and painted over pressed leaves to see the imprint left behind.  We
continued our discussion of fall by visiting a pumpkin farm where we
picked pumpkins and saw different animals.  During farm week we made
pink pigs out of paper plates.  We also practiced "milking cows" by
filling up rubber gloves with water.  We also filled up the rubber
gloves with black paint and created spotted cows.
We made animal tracks in the snow.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
enjoyed counting our blessings.  We made a turkey with feathers.
On each feather you can see what we are thankful for.
We made up a Rainbow Turkey story and created rainbow turkeys to go with it.
We decorated fall leaves with sparkly stickers.
We also decorated fall leaves with painter pumpkin leaves.
We had a GREAT fall season!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
during November talked about leaves.  We went on the nature walk
and collected leaves for our wreaths.  We also learned the
different parts of leaves and did leaf rubbings to see the different parts.
