August 2007

NEWS AND NOTES

Dear Parents,

It's hard to believe another summer is drawing to a close and that we are preparing for a new school year.
As we prepare for our August 27th opening, I can't help but reflect on this past year.
They have had a ball at Lincoln Park Zoo, Emily Oaks Nature Preserve, Kohls Museum, the Shedd Aquarium and watching Little Red Riding Hood at St. Pat's High School.  Our last trip will be to the Brookfield Zoo.  They can hardy wait!
We have watched your children grow and develop and we must say good-bye to many of our "adults" as they go on to "big school". It's always difficult to have our children leave, but they're ready and it has been a great joy to be a part of your children's lives and we thank you for the opportunity.

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) that we
started on May 1st has been a great success.
The children are receiving a nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack.
It has given them an opportunity to try new and different nutritious foods every day. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 8:45 in the fours and fives and between 8:45-9:00 in the toddlers and threes. Please have your child at school by that time so they can take advantage of a "yummy" breakfast.

          ALWAYS MAKE TIME,
            minutes of time,
              minutes of love,
Keep showing me that you love me,
     If I learn to love,
it will be a priceless gift.
Whatever I can, or cannot, do
        if I love,
            I'll receive so much.
     So express it--giving yourself--
         hugging takes only a minute,
But the print of the hug
        on my heart
            lasts forever.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
in July started off with Wacky Week!  We had Hat Day, Backwards Day, Pajama Day, Circus Day, and Water Day!
Then we talked about the Wild, Wild West and dressed up like cowboys/girls.
After that it was time for a favorite summer past time...Baseball!
We had fun paying outside and doing some ball art.
Then it was camping time.
We read books in a tent and, of course, made smores!
We're ending our Summer Fun with Wacky Olympics Week!

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during the month of July talked about the Fourth of July and the red, white and blue colors.
The children had fun making shakers, fireworks and spray painting in their art projects.
We also talked about summer sports like swimming, baseball plays, and fishing.
The children enjoyed their time making baseballs for art and splish-splashing outside during water and fishing games.
We also talked about space and planets like earth, the moon and the sun and stars.
During the month of August we will talk about our favorite vacation spots and what we do during vacation time.
