NEWS AND NOTES

Dear Parents,

It's hard to believe another summer is drawing to a close and that we are preparing for a new school year.
As we prepare for our August 30th opening, I can't help but reflect on this past year.  We have watched your children grow and develop and we must say good-bye to many of our "adults" as they go on to "big school". It's always difficult to have our children leave, but they're ready and it has been a great joy to be a part of your children's lives and we thank you for the opportunity.

Change is the one constant in our lives.  Tiny Tot will have several changes this coming year.  Our Miss Kathy in the kindergarten is leaving us to care for the new addition to her family, due in September.  We promise to keep you informed of the blessed event.

Our Miss Michelle in the three-year-old class is getting married August 14th.  Here last day as a single woman at Tiny Tot will be August 10th.  She will return to us a married lady on August 30th.  My daughter Beth will be filling in for Michelle on August 11, 12, and 13th.

Miss Kelly in the toddler room will be returning to school at Western Illinois University.  Kelly has been a wonderful addition to our Tiny Tot Family this summer.  We will miss her and look forward to seeing her during the holidays.  Miss Megan Cooney is returning to us in the toddler room for the new year.

Shannon Richardson will be our new Kindergarten teacher. Miss Shannon has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education.  She has a minor in anthropology and looks forward to sharing her knowledge of Native Americans, animals and the human body.  We are very happy to welcome her to our staff.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
talked about their "five senses".  For smell we made flowers and sprayed them with
perfume so we could smell our flowers using our nose. During our "Count With Me Week"
we made ice cream cones with 1-2-3 scoops and we sang, "1-2-3, we scream for ice cream!"
When we talked about farm animals we made cows with colorful polka dots, sheep using
cotton balls and baby chicks hatching out of an egg. In our "Discovering Me Week" we made
a hand print over our creation and also traced each child and had them decorate it. During
out "Beach Time Fun Week" each day was a different theme:  Monday was  Sun, Tuesday was
sand, Wednesday was Kite fun, Thursday was water and Friday was Picnic fun. We made
beach scenes, decorated kites and made a sun that reflects the sun through it.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during July made our own glitter fireworks to display during Summer Fun Week.
We talked about the fish in the sea. We also made kites and flew them in the park.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
and the Kindergartener's followed their map that they made to find a treasure!  They left the school, carefully crossed the the street and searched the park for a special treat.
Ask us what we found!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
during June and July made a fireworks picture by squeezing glue out in the shape of
fireworks. Next, we carefully sprinkled colored sand over the glue. In the beginning
of Summer the 5's also made monkeys by gluing together different shapes.
They then traced their own hands and feet to attach to their monkey.
The children have also had the opportunity to make crafts such as stars, and butterflies.
Each project takes a lot of patience and the 5's did a terrific job!

Thank you
for another wonderful year!
