NEWS AND NOTES

Spring is really here......

Please check your child's container of clothing
and exchange for lighter and most likely larger clothes.
We will be outside on a daily basis and ask you to dress your child appropriately.
Proper shoes are very important for the safety of children.
Gym shoes are the best.  Please no sandals, jelly shoes or flip flops.
Thank you for your cooperation.

THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD
April 19-25, 2009

The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize
that children's opportunities are our responsibilities,
and to recommit ourselves to ensuring
that each and every child experiences the type of early environment
---at home, at child care, at school, and in the community---
that will promote their early learning.

Today  we know more than ever before about the importance of children's
earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before
have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing.
The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children's opportunities
are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and
every child experiences the type of early environment--at home, at child care,
at school, and in the community--that will promote their early learning.

EARTH DAY
Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Our Book It Program is going on through the end of April.
The competition is building as more books are being read.
Just take a look at the cutouts around each child's name.  Research has proven that reading aloud to a child
is the single most important factor in raising a reader.
By working together, we can prepare children
to be successful at reading and enjoy it for a lifetime.
At the end of the month the children will receive
a reading award certificate from Pizza Hut
good for a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza.
Also, April is National Poetry Month.
You might try reading a little poetry for little ones.

"Beyond Bedtime Stories" A Parent's Guide to Promoting, Reading.
Writing and Other Literacy Skills From Birth to 5 is a book you might consider.
It is available from Scholastic Books.

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
during the month of March we talked about The Wind.
The children made wind socks & we watched them blow in the wind.
During St. Patrick's Week, we concentrated on the color green & made shamrock trees.
Also, we talked about birds & butterflies.
We made bird feeders to hang outside & butterfly pictures using our hands & feet!
They came out great!
Next month we will be talking about baby animals, insects & a lot more Spring things!
A big welcome to our new friends Derek, Destiny & Trinity!

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...

We also reviewed our letters by playing an alphabet matching game.
We did a math coconut tree counting game, and talked about St Patrick's day.
We did activities that were  green and talked about windy weather.
In Art we made an alphabet collage.
On St. Patrick's Day, we marble painted shamrocks.
For Spring we made raindrops, clouds,  and rainbows.
In science, we made green play dough.
In Language Arts we talked about the Air.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten...
in April will learn about interesting insects and observe some ants in their habitat.
We will learn about Spring and what happens in this season; dye eggs and learn about baby animals.
We will learn about prehistoric animals and turtles and frogs and, of course, have LOTS OF FUN!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
