NEWS AND NOTES

Spring is really here......

Please check your child's container of clothing
and exchange for lighter and most likely larger clothes.
We will be outside on a daily basis and ask you to dress your child appropriately.
Proper shoes are very important for the safety of children.
Gym shoes are the best.  Please no sandals, jelly shoes or flip flops.
Thank you for your cooperation.

"The Chicks are Coming, the Chicks are Coming..."

On April 16th, the eggs arrived.
The fours and fives will have an opportunity
to observe eggs incubate and hatch into baby chicks.
The children are very excited and will be learning how chickens develop.
This is a wonderful unit for Spring.
We'll keep you posted on how it's going.
Feel free to stop by and take a look.

THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD
April 13-19, 2008

The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize
that children's opportunities are our responsibilities,
and to recommit ourselves to ensuring
that each and every child experiences the type of early environment
---at home, at child care, at school, and in the community---
that will promote their early learning.

Today  we know more than ever before about the importance of children's
earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before
have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing.
The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children's opportunities
are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and
every child experiences the type of early environment--at home, at child care,
at school, and in the community--that will promote their early learning.

EARTH DAY

Going Green
Jenn Savadge was interviewed on NBC as part of their series of "Going Green" and has written a book for parents:
The Green Parent: A Kid-Friendly Guide to Earth-Friendly Living.
The Green Parent is the perfect book for parents who would like to teach their children about living green.
From how to save energy, to how to reuse and recycle everything, this resource offers advice for getting children involved
in conservation, as well as products and services that can help parents raise more environmentally conscious children.
Through a series of fun activities such as how to start a "light patrol," how to make a "waste-free" school lunch,
and how to build a "green" bird house---parents and kids will learn ways to make the biggest impact,
save the most money, and discover how making even the smallest of changes can make a big difference.

Our Book It Program is going on through the end of April.
The competition is building as more books are being read.
Just take a look at the cutouts around each child's name.  Research has proven that reading aloud to a child
is the single most important factor in raising a reader.
By working together, we can prepare children
to be successful at reading and enjoy it for a lifetime.
At the end of the month the children will receive
a reading award certificate from Pizza Hut
good for a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza.
Also, April is National Poetry Month.
You might try reading a little poetry for little ones.

"Beyond Bedtime Stories" A Parent's Guide to Promoting, Reading.
Writing and Other Literacy Skills From Birth to 5 is a book you might consider.
It is available from Scholastic Books.
