NEWS AND NOTES

Spring is really here!  Please check your child's bag of clothing
and exchange for lighter and most likely bigger clothes.
We will be outside on a daily basis and ask you to
please dress your child appropriately.
Proper shoes are very important for the safety of the children
and gym shoes are the best.

Spring Fling...

It's time to think about Spring things...
things like walking in the woods,
buying seed packets and getting the bikes ready,
clean out a closet, give the dog a bath,
look for bird nests, fly a kite,
look at the stars and find a satellite.

REMINDER...
Tiny Tot will be closed on Friday, April 6th

THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD
April 22-28.

Week of the Young Child is April 22-28, 2007!
During the Week of the Young Child, plan exciting events
to celebrate children and raise awareness of their needs.
Start planning ways to build better futures for all children!

Today  we know more than ever before about the importance of children's
earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before
have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing.
The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children's opportunities
are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and
every child experiences the type of early environment--at home, at child care,
at school, and in the community--that will promote their early learning.

EARTH DAY
April 22, 2007

Do something nice for the planet by teaching your child the definition of the word recycle.
RECYCLE:  to treat or process in order to use again.
-Webster's Dictionary
Also learn to recognize the recycle symbol and try to find it
on all sorts of products. Give the word and symbol meaning by
recycling newspaper into wrapping paper and grocery bags into trash can liners.

The threes, fours and fives
are all participating in "Book It!"
This is a program sponsored by
Pizza Hut to give children an incentive
to read more.  If your child reads the recommended number of books they
will receive a certificate for an
individual pan pizza each month
of the program.
There is a BIG competition going
on this month between the
4's and 5's-Who will read the most????

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
talked about dinosaurs and made dinosaur prints.
Then we celebrated Dr. Seuss' books and made a big "Cat in the Hat"
We also painted with cups which made circles!
Later we had "Green Week" and painted with spools dipped in green paint.
To welcome Spring, the children made bees, butterflies, flowers and kites to hang on our bulletin board.

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during March talked about dinosaurs and how they lived a long time ago.
The children enjoyed making dinosaur footprints.
We also enjoyed the St. Patrick's Day holiday.
During "Nursery Rhymes Week" we learned
Humpty Dumpty, Mary Had a Little Lamb,
Hickory Dickory Dock and Jack and Jill.
The children really had a lot of fun.
Recently we have been working on our Spring theme.
We already painted grass and we made clouds and butterflies.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
during Space Week decided to marble paint circles with blue and green to make the Earth.
To make Mars we again used circles, this time we glued them then put red and orange colored sand on them.  We cut out clouds shapes and marble painted with black and silver paint to make "our little black rain clouds."  The students in our class are participating in "Book-It".
Our Parents or siblings are reading to us and then write down the title of the book.
Our goal was 500 books. We started in the beginning of March.
We have already reached our goal.  The Fours have read 577 books so far.
We recently changed our goal to 1000 books.

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
talked about St. Patrick's Day and made these shamrock collages.
For our "Family Project" this month we made rainbows, something beautiful after the rain.
During Space Week we made our own constellations and named them.
We are also participating in the "Book-It" Program.
There is a real competition going on between the fours and the fives!!
