NEWS AND NOTES

SPRING.......!!!!!!!!!!

Spring is really here!  Please check your child's bag of clothing
and exchange for lighter and most likely bigger clothes.
We will be outside on a daily basis and ask you to
please dress your child appropriately.
Proper shoes are very important for the safety of the children
and gym shoes are the best.

SSpring Fling...

It's time to think about Spring things...
things like walking in the woods,
buying seed packets and getting the bikes ready,
clean out a closet, give the dog a bath,
look for bird nests, fly a kite,
look at the stars and find a satellite.

Poems are easy to create.
Try this, then make up your own!

SPRING!
I see a rainbow in the sky.
I hear a bird as it flies,
I smell a flower with my nose.
I splash the water with my toes.

THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD
April 18-24.

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

The theme for the Week of the Young Child 2004 is Children's Opportunities--Our Responsibilities. The central purpose is to promote the needs of young children, their families, and the early childhood programs that serve them.

Today  we know more than ever before
about the importance of children's
earliest years in shaping their learning
and development. Yet, never before
have the needs of young children and their
families been more pressing.

The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment--at home, at child care, at school, and in the community--that will promote their early learning.

In celebration we will have a simple breakfast
in the classrooms between 8:00 and 8:30am.
You will receive details from your classroom teachers.

EARTH DAY
April 22, 2004

On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day was held.
People all over the country made promises to help the environment.
Everyone got involved and since then, Earth Day has spread all over the planet.
People all over the world know that there are problems we need to work
on and this is our special day to look at the planet and see what needs changing. Isn't it great?
One person had an idea and kept working until everyone began working together to solve it.
See what happens when people care about our world?

The Eggs Are Here.....

The Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes are involved in the Incubation Embryology project sponsored by the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service and 4H.
With patience and observation our young embryologists will witness an “eggstraordinary” event—the emergence of newly hatched eggs.  Our due date is March 29th. Be sure to ask your child about embryology, incubate, candling and how we are preparing for the chicks.
Hats off to our wonderful teachers
for providing this wonderful learning experience for our children.

REMINDER:
We will be closed on Friday, April 9, 2004

WHAT'S HAPPENING...

Our Teddy Bears, the two's ...
are studying shapes.  Squares and diamonds were the last ones.
We made a train out of squares.  Then we made kites out of diamonds,
they are flying in the room.  Get ready to see some new artwork displayed!

The Bunny Bunch, the threes ...
during Nursery Rhyme week learned different nursery rhymes.
We made our very own Humpty Dumpty walls.
We also made Hickory Dickory Dock clocks and talked about time.

Our 4's, our Junior Kindergarten ...
enjoyed learning about what people in our community do for a living.
We also talked about what we want to be when we grow up.
During our  adventures at the farm we enjoyed making pink pigs out of paper plates.
To celebrate St Patty's Day we made green parfait and leprechaun head bands.
We almost caught the leprechaun this year!

Our 5's, our Kindergartener's...
and Junior Kindergarteners on March 7th
received fertilized eggs that will hopefully hatch.
With proper care, the eggs should hatch in 21 days.
Once they hatch, we will keep the chicks until they are strong
and then they will go to a farm.
While learning about eggs, the 5's made chicks by gluing eyes
and colored feathers onto yellow pre-cut paper.
During St. Patricks's Day we talked about leprechauns
and reviewed the colors of the rainbow.
Next, we traced each child's hands onto different color paper.
The children then helped cut out their handprints
and glue them together to create a rainbow.
